Both teams made the finals of both competitions through the traditional way of winning matches and the more extraordinary way of administrative errors made by others. Unfortunately, this worked both for and against us resulting in neither team winning their finals.

Round 1 of the NPL and WSL kicked off last Friday evening in a double header against the Hobart Zebras at North Hobart Oval. While neither of our teams walked away with a win it was great to be part of the first games of the round ball game of football played at North Hobart Oval in quite some time.

Our Challenge League had a more successful first round defeating Hobart Zebras 3 - 0.

ROUND 2: South Hobart FC v Kingborough Lions United FC  (Darcy Street)

For Round 2 we return home where we are hosting Kingborough Lions United FC in a big weekend of football at Darcy Street.

This Saturday our Challenge League team kick off proceedings at 11:45am followed by the NPL match at 2pm.

Challenge League:  KO @ 11:45AM
NPL Men: KO @ 2PM

Head Coach Ken Morton said "I believe we can learn from this result and performance and build a sound foundation for the 2018 season. This week we have prepared well for our match at home to Kingborough Lions. We are aware Coach Mark Broadbent is doing a great job at the Borough. Away to Launceston City, they had a lot of good possession and they also have pace and can play on the counter attack. We look forward to playing against a strong opponent on Saturday."

Our senior men's team have drawn Clarence United FC in their first round of the Lakoseljac Cup. So if you are looking to finish off your Easter weekend with some football, come and support them on Monday, 2 April at Wentworth Park 2, Clarence. Kick off @ 4PM.

Senior Women's Football - Upcoming Matches at Darcy Street

The South Hobart FC Senior Women teams are looking forward to their first home games on Sunday when they will take on Kingborough Lions at Darcy St.

Veto Women's Championship (VWC): KO @ 12PM
Women's Super League (WSL):  KO @  2PM

Proceedings start at 12pm with the Veto Women’s Championship (VWC) match followed at 2pm by the WSL match.

SHFC and KLUFC field two of the youngest sides in the senior women’s competition so both matches should be highly competitive with evenly matched teams. We have someplayers returning from illness and other commitments that will strengthen both our teams this week.

WSL Coach Craig Westwood said “Our players acquitted themselves well in Round 1 against an experienced and strong team.  Looking ahead to this game, we prevailed over Kingborough in the Summer Cup.  However, we do not underestimate the speed and skills of their forward line in particular.  We again go into a match without two of our strikers in Issy Ferrier and Eve Fulton, due to injuries sustained in the Summer Cup but I am confident that we have talent and ability to match them and look forward to the contest. Playing at Darcy Street for the first time in the Super League is a very special occasion for us and we hope visiting teams will enjoy playing on such an iconic venue as much as we do".

Our VWC coach Robin Fleming is also confident of his team’s chances after their very competitive performance in the first round against Hobart Zebras. “The future looks very promising after a tough game played in very hot conditions at KGV and with several players carrying slight injuries and unwell.  With more players returning to the squad this weekend and playing at home, I believe that we will be extremely competitive against Kingborough.”

On Easter Monday (2 April 2018) our senior women will take on University in the first round of the Women’s Statewide Cup. KO @ 2PM at Olinda Grove, Mt Nelson.

The canteen will be open both days this weekend so grab a snack, a drink and sit back and watch South Hobart senior men and women's teams in their first home games of the season.
