Andrew Wilkie, the Independent Federal Member for Denison (which will be known as Clark in the next Federal election), in conjunction with the Federal Government has secured one million dollars to ensure the City of Hobart’s Premier Soccer ground meets the standards of modern day football. South Hobart Oval is the spiritual home of football and means so much to those who have gone before and those who are yet to play the world game. We first played here in 1910 — so many games, so much joy and sorrow for teams from all over Tasmania.

For decades South Hobart Football Club and our visiting opposition have made do with very antiquated facilities. Blinding lights which shine in your eyes. No dugouts or shelter for  coaching staff or players. A scoreboard that was hand operated. No facilities for media. No access to toilet facilities for the elderly, very young or disabled. No female friendly changerooms for players or referees. A canteen which was the size of a shoe box and no social area for visiting teams or officials.

No longer!

Dreams do come true.

Thank you Andrew Wilkie and the Federal Government for supporting football in Tasmania.
